Accessible Blood Glucose Meter Team Members: Dave Price, Matt Bularzik, Mike Rivera
Project Description The gPod Accessible Blood Glucose Meter provides an easy to use interface and communication of test results both visually and audibly. The device is accessible for diabetic patients who have a variety of disabilities. These disabilities range from hearing loss, decreased eyesight, blindness, and diminished motor skills. Many blood glucose monitors on the market are not designed to accommodate users with these disabilities. Although some consider patients with poor vision, these designs are often bulky and expensive. The gPod Accessible Blood Glucose Meter is a device that accommodates each of the previous disabilities in a sleek, user friendly, cost effective unit. The monitor is different from those on the market because it has a step-by-step voice prompt system, a simple user interface, and a barcode scanner used to identify vials of insulin.
