The largest demand for engineers through 2008 will be in the medical instrument and supply industry, according to the U.S. Labor Department. Engineering jobs in the medical sector are forecast to increase by 33.4 percent from 1998 to 2008. Overall demand for engineers in industry will increase by 19.9 percent.
