Miscellaneous Tips

  1. START EARLY. Many schools have rolling admissions and fill their seats as they receive qualified applicants. If you are late, you risk losing out on a seat.

  2. Make sure your personal statement is well written and proofread many times.

  3. No mistakes or typos should appear in any of your application materials.

  4. The application process is more than one year in duration, with many requirements. Stay well organized right from the beginning.

  5. Don't minimize the importance of one or two areas of your application. The people competing against you are well qualified in all areas.

  6. Plan interview strategies for each school. Be well prepared and relaxed.

  7. Be selective in choosing the schools. The process requires large amounts of time, money, and energy. Applying to more schools increases all of these.

  8. Get as much done during the summer as possible. The application process can seem like a six credit class.

  9. Take many practice MCATs offered by the official site. These are available for a fee and are worth the price.

  10. If you are waitlisted at a school that is high on your list, send letters of intent to the school and provide updates. Show the admission committee that you are still very interested.

  11. The MSAR is a great resource for choosing your school and determining entrance requirements specific to each school.

  12. During the interview, discuss your senior design project. This will separate you from many of the other candidates.
