_______Accessible Home Vital Signs Monitoring System
Description of Project The Accessible Home Vital Signs Monitoring System is a project funded by the Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center on Accessible Medical Instrumentation (RERC-AMI) 2006-2007 design competition. The Accessible Home Vital Signs Monitor measures six (6) vital signs: body temperature, blood oxygen saturation, heart rate, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and weight. This is accomplished through a multi-modal design that includes a thermometer, pulse oximeter, automatic oscillometric blood pressure monitor, thermocouple, and scale. The device measures vitals signs and communicates them to the user both visually and audibly. The simple 3-button design includes Braille and Universal Symbols on large buttons. These features provide accessibility to the visual and hearing impaired, as well as to all ages and user ability levels. Vital sign readings are sent to the client's PC via Bluetooth technology, and then uploaded to health care providors through a secure website. |
