Minor in Biomedical Engineering

A minor in Biomedical Engineering is offered for engineering students at the University of Connecticut who wish to expand their knowledge in the field. For a detailed explanation of the minor degree in Biomedical Engineering and the plan of study form, please click here (PDF).

When you are preparing your final plan of study, you must obtain approval from both the Head of your Department and the Biomedical Engineering Program Director. Submit the original of this form with your final plan of study to the Registrar, give one copy to your advisor, and keep one copy for your records.

Current Minor Requirements
The following five courses are necessary to fulfill requirements of the Biomedical Engineering minor. Students are strongly advised to ensure that all appropriate prerequisites are met prior to taking each of the required courses.

  • Introduction to Biomedical Engineering (BME 211, 3 credits)
  • Biochemical Engineering (BME 221, 3 credits) or Introduction to Biochemical Engineering (CHEG 273)
  • Biomedical Engineering Measurements (BME 252, 4 credits)
  • Biomechanics (BME 261W, 4 credits)
  • Biomaterials (BME 271, 4 credits)
  • Past Minor Requirements

    Students can use any of the previous BME Minor Requirements in any UConn Catalog from the date of Maltriculation to Graduation. If the student was dismissed, the available BME Minor Requirements in any UConn Undergraduate Catalog from date of readmission to Graduation.
