Senior Design


BME 4910. Design II

Prerequisite: BME 4900. 

Design of a device, circuit, system, process, or algorithm. Team solution to an engineering design problem as formulated in Design I, from first concepts through evaluation and documentation. Written progress reports, a final report, and oral presentation are required.

After completion of this course, each student should be able to do the following:

  1. Create and maintain a WWW site for the project using Microsoft FrontPage or Dreamweaver;
  2. Record work completed in a laboratory notebook using industry practices;
  3. Maintain a detailed time-line for the project using Microsoft Project;
  4. Present a final project using Microsoft PowerPoint;
  5. Demonstrate an ability to design and conduct experiments, analyze and interpret data;
  6. Demonstrate an ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs;
  7. Recognize the need for, and an ability to engage in life-long leaning experience by just in time learning.
  8. Construct and test a prototype project using modular components;
  9. Create a printed circuit board;
  10. Conduct system integration and testing;
  11. Use appropriate manufacturing technologies
  12. Assemble final product;
  13. Field-test the project;
  14. Conduct failure analysis on product;
  15. Write final project report and operations manual;
  16. Present an oral report using Microsoft PowerPoint;
  17. Engage in safe laboratory practice;
