Dr. Sangamesh Kumbar receives R01 Grant from the National Institute of Health

Associate Professor Sangamesh G. Kumbar received an R01 grant from the National Institute of Health on “Biodegradable Matrices for Bone Healing”. This $1.42 M award over the period of four years will allow Dr. Kumbar’s laboratory to develop micro-nanostructured scaffolds that contain properties of polymers and ceramics. In this multidisciplinary approach, an orthopaedic surgeon, bone biologist and biomedical engineer will contribute to the understanding of biomaterial mediated bone healing. Studies may lead to identification of novel materials, compositions and a methodology to create load bearing orthopaedic implants.
