Back pain and neuromodulation: a new era

Abstract: This talk will cover recent advances and the next frontiers in neuromodulation for back pain, a highly prevalent and debilitating public health challenge. These innovations include novel spinal cord stimulation waveforms, restorative neurostimulation targeting muscle dysfunction, peripheral nerve stimulation, and improved device technology. The speaker will provide a unique clinical perspective from his experience as a practicing spinal neurosurgeon who has developed CLIA-certified technologies that are now in clinical practice. Participants will learn key principles to strengthen the translational potential of their investigational aims, including informational resources; guidance on developing collaborations; and frameworks for clinical evaluation and translation.

Biography: Mihir Gupta, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Yale University. As a practicing spine surgeon and neurosurgeon, he treats a variety of degenerative, neoplastic, traumatic, and other spinal pathologies, as well as traumatic brain injury. His research interests include developing novel approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of neurologic conditions. He completed his medical degree at Stanford University, where he was a Howard Hughes Medical Institute research fellow. He completed his neurosurgical residency training at UC San Diego, postdoctoral studies at Massachusetts General Hospital, and fellowship training in spinal surgery at Johns Hopkins
